Two suspects are in custody in Cleveland County following an incident February 10 on the bridge between Purcell and Lexington.
A Lexington police officer attempted a traffic stop around 5th Street, but the vehicle didn’t yield and continued westbound heading toward Purcell.
At about the midpoint on the bridge, the officer saw the passenger throw a handgun out the window.
Assistance was requested from Purcell police and the McClain County Sheriff’s Department.
Lexington Police Chief Ronnie Johnson said officers recovered a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol. The serial number on the weapon was defaced, the chief added.
Cleveland County prosecutors charged the passenger, Chad Coburn, 46, of Del City, with possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
His bond is $20,000. A preliminary hearing conference will be at 1:30 p.m. March 1.
The driver, Randy D. Epps Jr, 37, of Oklahoma City, is charged with a single misdemeanor – driving without a valid license.
