Finders keepers doesn’t play in the real world where trying to follow the children’s rhyme can land you in legal hot water.

It happened to a Norman man who is charged in McClain County District Court with larceny of lost property, a felony.

Robert W. Byers, 43, of Norman, is free after posting a $1,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing conference will be at 9 a.m. April 13.

According to an affidavit, when a Calumet woman attempted to cash out for $1,600 on February 12 at Riverwind Casino, the machine she was playing instead issued a cash out ticket for a previous player.

The woman took the ticket without examining it. After she walked away, the machine issued the correct ticket which Byers allegedly took.

On February 13, surveillance staff at the casino notified Chickasaw Lighthorse Police that the suspect, identified as Byers, was in the casino.

An officer detained Byers for questioning, during which he reportedly admitted taking a $1,600 ticket that wasn’t his.
