Film to be made in Purcell

Fund-raising underway for ‘One Crazy Night’ movie

The dates have not been nailed down but in the near future Purcell will be hosting another movie film crew and cast.

Former area resident Rock Whitehead wrote the screen play for One Crazy Night which is inspired by true events.

The retro comedy played out in the time of Elvis Presley’s last Oklahoma concert in 1977.

Whitehead said they will be casting extras in Purcell once funds are raised.

“It’ll be especially for people with 1977 vehicles or older,” Whitehead said. “We’ll need them for the cruising scenes on Main street and restaurant patrons. If anyone there still uses CB radios, even better.”

Whitehead said several CB  movies came out in the mid 70s like ‘Smokey and the Bandit’, ‘Breaker, Breaker’ and ‘Citizen Band’.

“CB radios were the social media for everyone at that time,” Whitehead said. “Even Elvis had a CB radio. History repeats itself and Citizen Band Radios are getting popular all over again.”

The director of the film is Josh Baxter with the chief cinematographer Benjamin Oliver.

“Other film crew members will be added as we get closer,” Whitehead confirmed.

Whitehead said the movie will be filmed on Main Street, Green Avenue and at Rubys Inn and Restaurant.

“We’ll use the old high school auditorium and a quick stop as well,” he said. “We have really no idea when filming will begin. It all depends on what comes through the process to get it all done.

“We’re being fiscally sponsored by “From The Heart Productions” which is a 501c3. That’s a good thing since donations are tax deductible. Now we just keep our fingers crossed as we keep sharing and plugging away the news about it,” Whitehead said.

The lead female actress will be played by Sheree J. Wilson, who played Alexandra Cahill in ‘Walker Texas Ranger’ from 1993-2001 and was in 127 episodes of the TV series ‘Dallas’ playing along side Patrick Duffy.

“We still have a long road ahead of us. A bad economy isn’t helping much but we’re excited about it all,” Whitehead said.
