The entry deadline for the 2020 McClain County Free Fair is Monday, fair manager Johnny Roberts reminds exhibitors.
All exhibits must be entered online. A link to the online entry system is available on the fair website, www.mcclaincountyfair.com.
This year’s fair is September 8-12. Meat Monkey food truck will provide concession services.
“We are excited to add a virtual rabbit show this year since the state banned live rabbit shows due to a disease outbreak,” Roberts said.
Rabbit exhibitors also have a Monday deadline to make entries and submit pictures and video of the rabbit(s) online.
Due to COVID-19, there will be different procedures in place for exhibitors bringing building class exhibits to the fairgrounds.
Check-in of open class entries on September 8 will follow a strict schedule based on the exhibitors’ last names.
Those with last names beginning with A to D will check in from 10 a.m. until noon. Those whose last names start with E through K will check in from 1 to 3 p.m. From 3 to 5 p.m. is reserved for exhibitors whose last names start from L to R and those with last names starting from S to Z will check in from 5 to 7 p.m.
There will be temperature checks of everyone arriving at the fairgrounds, Roberts said.
Exhibitors will be given entry cards to place on each entry. They will then be directed to tables labeled with divisions and classes.
“You will be the only one handling your exhibits during check-in to minimize fair volunteers’ exposure,” he added.
This year’s fair will consist solely of livestock and building exhibits.
There will be no public viewing of any building exhibits.
Roberts said social distancing, hand hygiene and other safety measures are encouraged. Other measures may also be initiated to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“Please check our website for information regarding these procedures, fair book information and other updates,” Roberts said. “You may also follow us on Facebook to receive updates and announcements.
“Although it is not under ideal circumstances, the McClain County Fair Board hopes these changes and safety measures will allow the citizens of McClain County to exhibit their hard work with no exposure to COVID-19.”
