Escape attempt

Posted

Not every open door is an opportunity.

Cody E. Harrell, 34, of Edmond, discovered this earlier this month when he ran out of his cell at the McClain County Detention Center when a deputy opened the door to release another prisoner.

Harrell had been in the jail since December 27 after he failed to appear for a hearing on charges of second degree forgery, making/possessing fake bank note plates, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

McClain County prosecutors filed those charges in March 2018.

Now he is also charged with attempting to escape.

According to an affidavit, Harrell darted from the open cell shortly after midnight on January 9.

When the detention deputy ordered him to stop and return to the cell, Harrell refused.

The deputy then had to use force to subdue Harrell and return him to the cell.

A preliminary hearing conference on the attempted escape will be at 9 a.m. March 24.
