Dragons to crown Queen

PHS Homecoming festivities rule on Friday

Football homecoming for the Purcell High School Dragons will  be Friday at Conger Field Stadium.

The coronation of a homecoming queen and king will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Dragons’ showdown against the Crooked Oak Ruf-Nex at 7 p.m.

But the homecoming festivities will begin hours earlier with a parade on Main Street and a pep assembly in front of McClain Bank.

Queen candidates are seniors Haylie Dempsey, Mercer Martin and Avery Wren. They will be attended by Katie Carrillo, Haley Kretchmar and Love Leigh Guthmueller.

King candidates are seniors Brendan Bacon, Austin Burton, Brody Galyean, Carlos Miranda, Jose Ochoa and Jake Scott.

The youngest members of the royal court are Emersyn Resendiz, flower girl, and Devin Wren, crown bearer.

Dempsey is a four-year football manager and girls basketball manager. She is a member of Student Council and National Honor Society. The daughter of Kristin Dempsey plans to pursue a degree in nursing.

Martin is senior class president and is a football manager. She is on the academic team and is a member of NHS and Key Club. The daughter of Faith Martin plans to attend law school.

Wren is a four-year cheer squad member and is a senior class officer on Student Council. She is also a member of the Executive Student Council. The daughter of Kevin and Angie Wren plans on attending nursing school.

Junior attendant Carrillo is a member of Student Council and Spanish Club. She is also on the prom committee. She is the daughter of  Renato and Elizabeth Carrillo.

Sophomore attendant Kretchmar is president of Pep Club, an FFA officer and member of  Spanish Club and Student Council. She is also on the golf team. She is the daughter of Amy Gray and Mark Kretchmar.

Freshman attendant Guthmueller plays basketball, is a cheerleader and a member of FFA. She also competes in track. She is the daughter of Kyle and Adrian Guthmueller.

Bacon plays football and golf. He was one of the 2021-22 Honorary Juniors. The son of Brian and Kim Bacon wants to attend college and become a lineman.

Burton is a four-year member of the football and golf teams. The son of Bronson and Amy Hyde and Anthony Burton wants to attend college and play football.

Galyean plays football, basketball and golf. He and his horse are also AQHYA World Champions. The son of Gil and Becky Galyean wants to be a coach or horse trainer.

Miranda is a four-year member of the football and powerlifting teams. The son of Juan and Margarita Miranda looks forward to a high-paying job.

Ochoa is another four-year member of the football and powerlifting teams and is also on the principal’s honor roll. The son of Lynn Wells and Liberio Trejo-Resendiz also hopes to earn lots of money after high school.

Scott is a four-year member of the football and powerlifting teams. The son of Tracy Scott and Robin Scott wants to go to work and make lots of money.

Emersyn is in first grade. She likes to play softball and wants to be a coach. She is the daughter of Modesto and Morgan Resendiz.

Devin is in kindergarten. He likes to play T-ball and flag football and wants to be a tornado chaser. He is the son of Kevin and Angie Wren.
