Purcell opens the 2025-26 basketball season at Madill this weekend in the Madill Winter Classic Basketball Tournament.

Coach Matt Lohn’s Dragons open the three-day event against Durant at 5:30 p.m. Thursday while coach Toney Cooper’s Dragons begin the tournament against ERA at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Win or lose those opening round games the two teams will play again on Friday.

The scheduled season opener at Marlow that was set for Tuesday, December 2 has been postponed due to the Outlaws still playing football.

Other teams in the tournament field include Caddo, Dickson, Deer Creek, Kingston JV, Harding Charter and the host Wildcats.

The December 9 home opener with Washington is still on regardless of the football team’s situation, officials confirmed.
