Purcell is hosting a 4A fast-pitch Regional Tournament.

The Dragons earned a bye in the first round and were awaiting the winner of Perkins-Tryon and Anadarko for a 2 p.m. contest Wednesday.

Perkins-Tryon and Anadarko squared off at noon Wednesday.

The tournament continues through today (Thursday) with the winner advancing to the Super Regional next week at a site yet to be determined.

Anadarko comes into the tournament at 10-15 while Perkins-Tryon is 15-17 on the season. Purcell is 23-8 coming off a loss to Lone Grove Monday evening.

“Anyone can sneak up on you in the playoffs,” Purcell Head Coach Sarah Jones said.

“Anadarko was in a tough district while Perkins was in the Newcastle-Blanchard District.

“We’re lucky we got a bye because there was no 8th seed in 4A District 1,” Jones said.

As far as post season play goes this year Jones thinks her squad is ready.

“We can’t leave people on base,” the coach confirmed. “We’ve got to get the clutch hits. We’re moving people around in the lineup. We’ve been doing a good job of wearing pitchers down by fouling off a lot of pitches.

“Our pitching has been good and our defense is looking really good. We’ve been making good plays. We just need to make sure we do the small things right,” Jones confirmed.

The Dragons blanked Pauls Valley 12-0 September 20 and dropped a 2-0 contest to Lone Grove Monday evening.
