Dragons’ expectation high for 2026 fast-pitch season

The Purcell Lady Dragons are excited to begin the 2026 softball season after an outstanding summer of hard work and preparation.

“Our players have dedicated themselves in the weight room, competed well throughout summer league play and put together an impressive scrimmage season that has us looking forward to opening day,” new head coach Jason Tompkins said.

This year’s team features one senior, Ava Sparks, who Tompkins said will play a key role in the circle and provide leadership for the young Dragon roster.

“Ava has invested countless hours on her own, working at the track and attending pitcher and catcher training sessions,” the coach said. “Her commitment work ethic, and leadership have set the standard for the rest of the team,” Tompkins said.

In addition to Sparks, returning starters include Miaca Martinez, Kendra Anderson, Kyndall Williams and Jaycee Holman.

Returning contributors Kamilah Rendon Alamos, Luna Fraire, and Raigen Mariott also bring valuable varsity experience.

“Joining them are 11 talented freshmen who add depth across the field, particularly in the pitching circle and at several key defensive positions,” Tompkins said.

Purcell opened the season this past Monday with a 7-2 setback at Byng.

Taryn Knowles took the loss in the circle.

She and Jaycee Holman both drove in a run in the game. The Dragons also got hits from Kyndall Williams and Kyleigh Reinhold.

The Dragons were scheduled to play Perry Tuesday and host Harrah today (Thursday).

Friday they will play Lawton and Norman in Norman at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and are scheduled to host Tuttle next Monday and Perkins on Tuesday.
