Posted

Kody Kroth threw six touchdown passes to five different receivers last Friday night when Purcell pinned a 47-6 loss on Lexington at Floyd West Field.

Kroth was 21-31 for 353 yards and was picked off twice.

Mojo Browning was the first receiver to snag a scoring aerial off the arm of the senior signal caller, a 19 yard reception to open the scoring.

Titus Mason hauled in a pass at the Purcell five yard line and turned it into a 95-yard scoring play.

Creed Smith grabbed two touchdown passes one for 16 yards and the other for 9 yards.

Hayden Harp and Kroth teamed up for a 16 yard touchdown and Jose Ochoa took a pass to the house from 43 yards out.

Brody Galyean closed out the Purcell scoring on a one yard plunge.

Mason led the receiving chart with five catches for 125 yards. Browning ended the contest with four catches for 91 yards. Smith netted 48 yards receiving on seven snags.

Ochoa had two catches for 53 yards.

Ryker Fink had 76 of Purcell’s 115 total rushing yards. The Dragons rolled up 468 yards of offense.

“Lots of people played well,” head coach Tracy Scott said. “Kroth played well throwing six touchdown passes. Creed and Mojo both had good games.

“I was pleased with the way we came out and got after ‘em early to make a statement and let there be no doubt who was going to win the game.”

The Dragons have been working on increasing production in the run game.

“I thought we did a decent job of running the ball,” Scott said. “We’ve been trying to make improvements to help us run the ball.”

Mr. Consistent Sam Wofford once again led the tackling chart making 13 stops against the Bulldogs.

“Sam played well,” Scott said. “He’s our leader week to week. He’s consistent and is a really good player that has a nose for the ball.”

Scott praised the play of all his defensive backs including Ochoa and Smith on the outside and linebacker Brodrick Smith on the inside.

Daytin Smith finished with nine tackles and in the defensive line Johnny Marquez had 10 stops. Jaysen Shea registered five tackles. Coach spelled him with Brendan Bacon who was credited with three tackles.

“We came out and played well defensively,” Scott said. “We shut down the things they were trying to do and had a lot of guys running to the ball. We also got pressure on their young quarterback.

Due to COVID quarantining of numerous Purcell players including several starters, the Dragons will not be making the trip to Bethel Friday for their scheduled district game with the Wildcats, Scott confirmed.
