Donald Gene McBroom died October 22, 2025, in Byars, Oklahoma, at the age of 69 years 6 months 11 days. Funeral services were held Monday, October 27, 2025, at the First Baptist Church in Byars. Interment followed at the Byars Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service.
Don was born April 11, 1956, in Mena, Arkansas, to Isaac and Leona (Carter) McBroom. He was raised in the Asher, Oklahoma, area.
Don dedicated many years of his life to the field of construction, engaging in various roles from road construction to being a dependable handyman. He possessed an innate ability to tinker and repair, particularly finding joy in fixing lawnmowers and other mechanical items. His hands were never idle; they were always engaged in work that reflected his resourceful spirit.
A true lover of nature, Don found solace in fishing, often reveling in the peaceful moments spent by the water. He also cherished the thrill of discovering treasures at garage sales and enjoyed the adventures of hauling items and raising animals, activities that brought warmth and happiness to his life.
On October 22, 2016, Don united in marriage with Joyce Carlin, in Asher, Oklahoma. Together, they created a loving home in Byars, where they shared their lives and dreams. Don had a steadfast love for family and friends, a tireless work ethic, and a joyful spirit. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Leona McBroom; and his siblings, Mildred McBroom, Nancy Morton, Larry McBroom and Terry Joe McBroom.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; his stepsons, Harold Williams and Gary Williams; his siblings, Marilyn Black, Raymond McBroom, Linda Morton and William McBroom; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
