Funeral services for Dolores Marie Ramsey, 94, of Purcell were held Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13313 N. Kelley Ave, in Oklahoma City. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home of Purcell.
Mrs. Ramsey passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024, in Norman, Oklahoma.
She was born on March 8, 1930, in Oklahoma City. She was the eldest of four children born to Walter Monroe Manning and Leota Marie (Marvel) Manning.  Dolores grew up in the Oklahoma City area and attended Classen High School, graduating in the class of 1948. While in high school she was a cheerleader for the Classen Cardinals and lead vocalist with the Classen High School Swing Band.
On March 26, 1949, she married the love of her life, Charles Madison Ramsey. They first lived in Oklahoma City for nine years, where they started their family. Beginning in the mid-1950s, they worked weekends at the Ramsey farm to help maintain their 2-acre vegetable garden. This love of gardening was a life-long passion. In 1958, they moved to Lexington, Oklahoma, where they opened “Ramsey’s Furniture and Appliance”, which they owned for 51 years.
She was active in the Lexington community, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a founding member of the Busy Mom’s Club. Besides helping in the family business and raising five children, she also sang in the Norman Sweet Adeline Chorus for a number of years. In 1978, Dolores and Charles moved to Purcell but continued operating their business in Lexington.
In 1966, she began working in the Cleveland County Treasurer’s Office. In 1977, she worked for the Department of Corrections (DOC) at the Lexington Assessment and Reception Center as a Typist/Clerk II. In August of 1985, she moved up to the position of Administrative Assistant II in DOC at their Oklahoma City Administrative Building. At that time, she began reviewing inmate misconduct and grievance cases.  She ultimately became the Administrator of the Administrative Review Authority. In April 2000, she retired from the DOC after 23 years of service.
After retirement, besides spending more time with her family, Dolores enjoyed fishing at their cabin on Lake Texoma. She was an avid sports fan, with season tickets to the OU men’s basketball games. She also closely followed OU football, OU softball, the OKC Thunder and in her last days, thoroughly enjoyed watching the 2024 Summer Olympics.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Madison Ramsey; brothers, Billy Monroe Manning and Rolla Gene Manning; and one infant son, Charles Madison “Chuckie” Ramsey, Jr.
She is survived by five children, Delinda Baxter and husband, Billy, of Breese, Ill., Robyn Ramsey of Norman, Okla., Debra Davis and husband, Daniel, of Las Vegas, Nev., Deanne Givens of Norman, Okla., and Craig Ramsey and wife, Tammy, of Purcell, Okla.; brother, Jackie Dwayne Manning and wife, Judy, of Moore, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Haley Metcalf, Carey Baxter, Katelyn Milosevic, Joshua Givens, April Quinton, Christen Knapple and Dylan Ramsey; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
