A McClain County Detention Deputy was killed Tuesday afternoon when the pickup he was driving and an ODOC transport bus collided on SH 39 east of Lexington.
Officials identified the deputy as Nick O’Neal 30, who lived east of Lexington.
Three DOC officers and 14 inmates were on board the bus at the time of the accident.
The bus driver and two inmates sustained non life-threatening injuries. The driver and one inmate were transported by ambulance to Purcell Municipal Hospital where they were treated and released.
The other inmate was transported back to the facility, according to the DOC.
ODOC officials said they appreciate the prompt assistance provided at the scene by Lexington, Purcell and Cleveland County first responders.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
