Monday morning’s derecho tore the roof off Word of Life Church on SH 39 in Dibble.
There were multiple reports of damage when winds reached up to 100 mph during the overnight storm.
Whether or not its due to El Nino, the weather pattern in the Heart of Oklahoma is definitely drier than last year.
So far Purcell has unofficially recorded 17.7” of moisture in 2026 after the derecho compared to last year at this same time when the number was much higher at 37.14”.
Gauges in Purcell recorded 1.2” during the early morning derecho that moved through the area causing wind damage.
That same storm caused many areas of minor wind damage and dumped up to 1.5” of rain in Maysville. Dibble received 1.2”.
Washington received .93” while Byars got .99”
Oklahoma City has recorded 9.5” to 13” depending on where the gauge is located so far in 2026.
Weather officials continue to predict more rain but for the most part Mother Nature has had other ideas.
