Darrell Weaver appointed Cleveland County Sheriff

The Cleveland County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted to appoint Darrell Weaver as the next Cleveland County Sheriff Monday, June 22.

Commissioners Rod Cleveland, Jacob McHughes and Rusty Grissom spent nearly two months vetting and interviewing applicants for the position.

Weaver has served in public safety and law enforcement for more than three decades. He spent 28 years with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, including nine years as director of the agency.

For the last eight years, he has served on the policy side of law enforcement as a State Senator.

“Darrell Weaver is a man of faith, honesty, integrity and proven leadership,” said Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, Jacob McHughes. “I believe he will create positive culture within the department and serve Cleveland County residents well.”

The commissioners interviewed nine candidates from a pool of 16 applicants. The Cleveland County District Attorney’s Office conducted eligibility and background checks on each applicant.

“This was my fifth sheriff appointment as a commissioner and a unique one, as we had an incredible pool of applicants,” said District 1 Commissioner Rod Cleveland. “Of all the talented candidates, I believe Darrell Weaver embodies many of the qualities we were seeking in a Sheriff, and I am confident he is going to do an excellent job for Cleveland County.”

“Our goal throughout this appointment process has been to remain positive and move forward with the best candidate to serve our county,” said District 3 Commissioner Rusty Grissom. “We wanted to find the best person and the right person for the job, and I believe we found that in Sheriff Weaver.”

Weaver will be sworn in on July 6, 2026, and will serve the remainder of the current term, which expires in 2028.
