Graveside services for Curtis Hyde, 84, were held Monday, March 31, 2025 at the Washington Cemetery. Services were under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mr. Hyde passed away surrounded by family on Friday, March 28, 2025.
Curtis Ray Hyde Sr. was born on June 1, 1940 to Jesse and Bessie (Madden)Hyde. He was the fourth of 10 children born to the couple. Curtis was born and raised around the Washington area and lived his entire life in the area.
Curtis married Fern Rice on June 24, 1961. The couple met on a blind date and it was love at first sight. They raised three amazing children together and spent 44 years happily married before the passing of Fern in 2004.
Curtis was a hard worker and had numerous occupations within his lifetime. He owned and operated Hyde’s Wrecker Service for many years, worked for University of Oklahoma and Walmart. He couldn’t stand to not be doing something, so even in retirement he would find something to keep himself busy.
While working at Walmart, Curtis met Carolyn Shipley. Curtis swept her off her feet with his compassion, concern and the way he cared for her. Curtis and Carolyn married on November 25, 2005 (Thanksgiving Day). The couple enjoyed each other’s company and traveling together making memories. They celebrated 19 years of marriage before the passing of Carolyn in 2024.
Curtis was blessed to know two great loves within his life.
Curtis was a family man. Everything within his life revolved around his family. He spent time with his grandsons teaching them all to make his “famous breakfast.” He loved being outside, gardening, traveling and watching westerns. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye and he enjoyed watching any sporting event they were participating in. Holidays spent with all his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids were his favorite. Curtis left quite a legacy, he was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Bessie Hyde; his first wife, Fern Hyde; his second wife, Carolyn Hyde; his son, Curtis Ray Hyde, Jr; his son-in-law, Rocky Beller; his sisters, Alice Hyde and JoAnn Mote; his brother, Alford Hyde; and his brother-in-law, Pete Foster.
Curtis is survived by his children, Frankie Hyde and wife, Barbara, of Washington and Melody Manning and husband, Randy, of Washington; his stepchildren, Ronnie Shipley and wife, Shannon, of Newcastle, Lisa Larman and husband, Billy, of Purcell, Kelly Lyles and husband, Perry, of Washington and Dawn Beller of Goldsby; his brothers, Nathan Hyde and wife, JoAnn, of Washington, Jerry Hyde and wife, Linda, of Washington and Hustle Hyde and wife, Anna, of Blanchard; his sisters, Doyce Foster of Blanchard, Rose Anna Horn and husband, Maurice, of Elk City and Mary Ruth Horn of Oklahoma City; his brother-in-law, Kenneth Mote and wife, Polly, of Goldsby; his sister-in-law, Louetta Hyde of Washington; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
