With a career spanning 40 years, Purcell CPA Roger Cudd is definitely a numbers guy.
Cudd, a 1982 Lindsay High School graduate, made his way to Purcell fresh out of college when he went to work for long-time CPA Richard Duffy.
“I worked with Richard until I opened my own practice in 1992,” Cudd said.
Cudd graduated from The University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Accounting in 1986.
He passed all four parts of his Certified Public exam on the first try in 1988.
The average pass rate for the exam is between 40-80 percent.
After his time with Duffy, he worked with a public company working on tax diligence for mergers and acquisitions.
“I was working for a company that was bought out,” Cudd said. “The new company liked my work and kept me on for tax due diligence.”
Cudd traveled extensively for work with that company.
“I travelled to Toronto, New York, Florida, Las Vegas – all over the place,” Cudd said. “But then we had kids and that was that. My traveling days were over.”
He worked for Roy Wilson Factory Outlet as controller for a time as he built his practice.
He moved into his current location in 1998.
Cudd and his wife, Lori, were married in 1993 and share two children, Emily and Jeremy.
Lori and the kids are all three Purcell graduates, with Lori graduating in 1992, Emily in 2015 and Jeremy in 2020.
Emily is married to Purcell strength and conditioning coach Cole Harwell.
The couple has one child, Griffin.
Lori joined Roger in working at the firm in 1998.
“There’s never a dull moment working with your spouse,” Roger said with a chuckle. “I’m pretty good at returning phone calls because she keeps me on my toes.”
Cudd works in a variety of accounting areas, including farming, construction, personal taxes and corporations.
One area he doesn’t do much in is for non-profit entities.
“It’s really specialized and I have enough work with the others,” Cudd said. “I’ve always liked helping people and I enjoy what I do.”
Outside of work, Cudd’s hobbies are hunting, fishing, golf and spending time with family.
