COVID plans for area schools

Posted

In Purcell, superintendent Sheli McAdoo said the district would go to an A/B schedule if COVID levels reach a certain mark by the Oklahoma Department of Health.

If that should occur students who’s last name begins with A-L would be going to class on Monday and Tuesday and distance learning Thursday and Friday.

Students with names that begin M-Z will be virtual on Monday and Tuesday and in class on Thursday and Friday. There will be no classes on Wednesday for deep cleaning.

Anyone including all students and staff are required to wear masks while on school property.

Washington Superintendent Chris Reynolds reports his district has three options: On-campus instruction or remote learning, blended and full virtual.

Parents should take students temperature every day prior to them leaving the house, Reynolds said.

Masks are recommended for students and required by staff at Washington.

Lexington Superintendent Chad Hall said if it becomes necessary and in the best interest of the community for his district to provide distance based learning the lower elementary would use Seesaw while the upper elementary through the secondary would communicate through Google Classroom with an assignment calendar that reflects Oklahoma Academic Standards.

“The Acellus program, primarily used for full time virtual instruction, will also be available for enhancement of any temporary distance learning,” Hall said.

The district is hopeful that their efforts result in individual case by case tracking.

“It is understood we operate in a still changing environment. In case of whole-school distance learning, a staffing plan ensuring nutrition services and educational solutions for families with unresolved connectivity challenges would accompany the district’s distance format,” Hall said.

Wayne Superintendent Toby Ringwald said  In the event that we are forced to go full virtual, students will remain on Google Classroom and teachers will report to campus to provide instruction through the Google Suite.

“We are going to everything in our power to not close down at any point,” Ringwald said. “We are going to handle cases as they come on a case by case basis and work directly with the health department to contact trace those that need to be quarantined. “

Ringwald said his staff and students are continuing to do a great job of social distancing when and where it is possible.

“We have already placed any student that opted for full virtual at the start of the year on Odysseyware and assigned them a teacher to support them,” he continued.

Any student that is under isolation or quarantine as a result of COVID testing or exposure will continue on Google Classroom with their regular classroom teacher.

In every district if students have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher they should not be sent to school. Also, students should stay home if they are feeling ill.

All districts are practicing social distancing even in the cafeteria.
