A correctional officer at Lexington Correctional Center was arrested last week by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General.
Daniel Ackah was taken into custody without incident on charges of rape by instrumentation and sexual battery.
The charges stem from an incident reported March 13 involving the sexual assault of an inmate.
Following his arrest, he was terminated from employment and booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center.
“Actions like these not only harm the victim, but also make it more difficult for the vast majority of our officers to do their jobs effectively,” ODOC Chief of Operations Jason Sparks said.
“Incidents like this erode trust and damage the reputation of our profession as a whole.
“It’s important to remember this behavior represents a very small fraction of our officers, who serve with integrity every day, he continued.”
“Our staff is held to a high standard, and the overwhelming majority live up to that expectation every day,” said ODOC Director Justin Farris.
“When individuals fail to uphold our values, we act decisively. We will not tolerate misconduct and we will hold those responsible fully accountable under the law, as we did in this case.
“I remain proud of the dedicated men and women who work every day to keep our facilities safe and secure,” he concluded.
