Wayne’s Board of Trustees have recently voted not to renew its contract with the McClain County Sheriff’s Department for a full-time deputy on duty.

Mayor Kenneth Harris said in a statement to The Purcell Register in part, “Due to budget constraints and issues pertaining to the fulfillment of the previous contract, the board  voted not to renew the upcoming contract at this time.

“Fortunately, due to the McClain County Sheriff’s Office being based in integrity, service and commitment, the town will still receive the benefit of their services,” Harris concluded.

It’s reported the savings to the town would be between $60,000 and $70,000.
