A correctional officer at Joseph Harp Correctional Center east of Lexington allegedly carried contraband items to an inmate, according to an affidavit filed in a felony case.
The packages contained controlled dangerous substances, according to court documents.
Tony M. Knighten, 34, of Wynnewood, is charged in McClain County District Court with conspiracy. Also charged was Angela Rangel, 19, of Enid. An arrest warrant for Rangel is outstanding.
Knighten was arrested and charged August 28 and posted a $5,000 bond Monday. His initial appearance is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Friday.
Knighten’s arrest on August 4 followed an incident when a K-9 alerted on his vehicle in the Joseph Harp parking lot.Medical marijuana was found in the vehicle.
The pair were charged following an investigation by two agents with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General Criminal Interdiction Division.
Knighten told one agent that he had been “compromised” by Sequoia Sheahart, an inmate at the prison, according to an affidavit.
He admitted to the agent that he met Rangel, Sheahart’s girlfriend, several times at the Taco Bell in Purcell, accepting packages he then delivered to Sheahart.
Using a prepaid Green Dot card, Rangel reportedly paid Knighten $400 each time he accepted a package, according to both affidavits.
The last meeting was July 28 with another set up for August 5.
