Mid-America Technology Center has a new look and it’s fantastic.
After an 18-month reconfiguration and remodel, the school on SH 59 near Wayne has a sparkling new set of office spaces, a huge commons area and a meeting room that can hold up to 600.
The new entrance has an area where visitors can get in from the weather but will still have to be buzzed into the main building as an added safety feature.
The renovation/construction added 32,000 square feet. The new portion of the administration building has a coffee bar, four additional sets of restrooms, a 330 person capacity safe room that is also a conference room, administrative and finance offices and a reception area.
Superintendent Mike Eubank reports, “The project also brought the existing part of our 56 year old administrative building up to fire and building code.
“Additionally, we constructed a separate 2,400 square foot I.T. Maintenance Building were we can consolidate our I.T. equipment and personnel,” Eubank said.
Those two projects combined to free up space to add up to six additional classes or programs.
The school held an open house last Thursday and the tour of the facility was amazing.
The district was formed in 1968 and with the first classes in the fall of 1971, serving 17 feeder schools with 13 programs.
There are 31 programs, 19 feeder schools, and an average enrollment of 1,000 full-time program students.
Mid-America Technology Center covers a geographical area of McClain and Garvin Counties and parts of Cleveland, Pottawatomie, and Grady Counties.
It serves Blanchard, Bridge Creek, Dibble, Elmore City-Pernell, Lexington, Lindsay, Little Axe, Maysville, Newcastle, Noble, Paoli, Pauls Valley, Purcell, Stratford, Wanette, Washington, Wayne, Whitebead and Wynnewood.
