Congrats, jobs well done

It’s one thing to be honored for a job well done, but it’s quite another to be honored by your peers.

That’s exactly what happened to one of Purcell’s finest graduates and Favorite Son this past Monday when Dr. Rick McCurdy was honored by his fellow surgeons in Norman.

Through donations by Norman surgeons and doctors, a lighted sign was dedicated as the Dr. Rick McCurdy Surgical Services area at Norman Regional Hospital in a surprise ceremony Monday afternoon.

Rick has treated people in Norman and Purcell for 49 years and his family has treated patients for over a century.

If you haven’t personally needed the services of the talented surgeon it’s most likely someone in your family has or you know of someone he has treated.

The CEO of Norman Regional said, “McCurdy is not only a one-of-a-kind surgeon but also an amazing person.”

We’re glad we know people like Rick McCurdy and are lucky enough to call him a close friend.

A complete story can be found in this week’s Purcell Register on the front page.

Congratulations, Rick!

You are so very deserving of such an honor.

Purcell shone like a bright star in the face of darkness last Friday when some knuckle head called in a bomb threat to the high school on an anonymous phone line.

Fast, professional action by teachers, staff and Purcell first responders immediately addressed the situation and quickly evacuated 750 students and around 75 faculty and staff to a safe location.

Not only did the high school empty of students and staff but out of an abundance of caution, likewise the same was true for the adjacent junior high building.

The massive undertaking went off without a hitch. No no one was injured and fortunately, no bomb was detected by our police and sheriff deputies and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Bomb Unit.

No other school in Oklahoma faced the same problem Friday but one elementary school in Ohio had the trick pulled on them.

Unfortunately, in this day and time every threat must be taken seriously and personnel in the school and police, fire and ambulance personnel did the same.

The drill you hope you never have to use came to fruition here Friday but educators and first responders did their jobs to perfection.

Congrats for a job well done.
