Newly elected Mayor Jay Tate welcomed 30 residents and members of the city staff to a Town Hall meeting at Happy Camper Cafe last Thursday evening.
Those in attendance heard the city has 18 wells in the well field east of Lexington with two currently off line.
The Purcell water district runs from Sonny’s Cafe north to Johnson Road and west to Sooner Road.
In addition to Mayor Jay Tate, Purcell City Manager Bobby Elmore, Assistant Public Works Director Marcos Castillo, and City Treasurer Wynn Tyson-Kramer were among city employees in attendance to help answer questions and visit with community members.
Sabrina Melton, Andy Pipes and city council persons, Adam Demorest and Tara Phillips were also on hand for the meeting.
Pipes told the gathering of around 30 that the airport needs to add hangars since he gets requests daily of pilots wanting space.
“And, fuel sales are increasing because the base number of aircraft is increasing,” Pipes said.
The new lighting and runway surface have added to the interest in the Purcell Airport.
Tate touched on a variety of issues both current and for the futures and answered questions and comments from those in attendance for the nearly 90 minute meeting.
