Christmas for the Kids in Wayne changes due to virus

Posted

A change is in store for the Wayne Fire Department’s Annual Christmas for the Kids.

For the past 30 years Santa has ridden a fire truck around town and meet back at the station with the children for hot chocolate and a donut.

Children would sit on Santa’s lap and tell him what they want for Christmas.

This year, due to COVID-19 there are some changes for the December 12th event.

“Due to concerns for safety of everyone we have decided to do a drive thru Christmas,” Sarah Kennedy said.

The event will be held in the Wayne High School parking lot starting at 9 a.m. The parade will end around 10 a.m. with Santa on hand to hand out goodie bags. Unfortunately, there will be no picture taking with Santa this year.

Also, in the past tickets have been handed out to those in attendance for drawing prizes.

This year the tickets will be put in random goodie bags.

When a vehicle pulls up, Santa will ask how many kids are in the car and he will present that many goodie bags.

There will be two golden tickets that will win bicycles. There will be 10 silver tickets the winners will be required to return for their gift and there will be a number of bronze tickets that will win a turkey or a ham.
