McClain County went along with the rest of Oklahoma in total turnout and who they wanted to nominate as their party’s nominees for the November general election in Tuesday’s Primary Runoff Election.
Former State Senator Mike Mazzei narrowly defeated Gentner Drummond as the Republican nominee for governor statewide, 50.3 percent to 49.7 percent. In McClain County the margin was 54.25-45.75 percent in Mazzei’s favor. He will face Cyndi Munson in the general election.
Of McClain County’s 30,777 voters 7,632 turned out to actually cast a ballot. Statewide, less than 25 percent of eligible voters decided State Question 846 for voter identification while a slightly lower total defeated State Question 844. The results were the same for McClain County.
Like the statewide vote, McClain County voters favored Robert Franklin for State Superintendent of Schools. He will face Janetta Marshall in November.
Democrats nominated N’Kiyla Jasmine Taylor over Jim Priest to face Kevin Hern in November for the U.S. Senator seat up for grabs.
Just like the statewide vote, McClain County Republican voters favored Kevin West over John Pfeiffer for Labor Commissioner and favored John Sullivan over Marty Quinn for Insurance Commissioner.
The General Election will be November 3.
