Mr. Fielder passed away unexpectedly on October 2, 2024.
Charles Lavoy Fielder was born on February 16, 1927 in Wayne, Oklahoma, the oldest of three children born to Charles H. Fielder and Ida Ethel (Lynn) Fielder. He attended Wayne Public Schools and graduated with the Bulldog Class of 1945.
On October 22, 1948, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, a young lady named Frances Louise Garrett. Together they raised four beautiful daughters, Lavonda, Pamela, Karen and Sherri. They made their home in Oklahoma City for many years before moving to Norman in 1962 and eventually settling in Wanette on the family farm in 1995.
Lavoy was driven and dedicated to working hard every single day. He worked in the Water Department for the City of Purcell and at New State Ice Cream in Oklahoma City, until he went to work for Oklahoma City’s Postal Service. Lavoy worked as an accounts receivable specialist there for over 25 years, before he eventually retired in 1986.
In his free time, he enjoyed a little bit of everything! He loved tending to his garden and in later years would spend a great amount of time canning. Lavoy also enjoyed cooking and making up his own recipes. He was famously known for his sauerkraut that was made from scratch. It was a family favorite!
Lavoy was an avid reader and read books from all types of genres. He especially loved to read humorous books and he often collected quotes from them!
His lifelong sweetheart, Frances Louise passed away on March 2, 2010. Lavoy was fortunate to find love again with an old friend, Norma Jean Pierce. The two were married on June 13, 2011 and together they shared five wonderful years until her passing in 2016. Lavoy was hard working, funny, and adventurous. He loved to travel and experience new things! Lavoy was a family man through and through. He loved spending time and making memories with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was a longtime and faithful member of the 7th and Monroe Church of Christ in Purcell, and his love for Jesus was evident in everything he did. He will be dearly missed!
He was preceded in death by his two wives, Frances Louise Fielder and Norma Jean Fielder; parents, Charles and Ida Fielder; sisters, Joyce Rinehart and Maxine Rose; son-in-law, Michael Carpenter and stepson, Ronnie Pierce.
Lavoy is survived by his daughters, Lavonda Wood (Dale) of Wanette, Pamela High (Rick) of Springdale, Ark., Karen Fielder of Norman and Sherri Hudgins (Ben IV) of Lake Jackson, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Lynda Shive (Craig), Don Wood (Jenny), Steve Wood, Kerry High (Genia), Jeremy High (Sarah Lara), Kristy Brown (Coby), Laurie High, Aaron Carpenter (Robin), Meghan Carpenter (Luke), Rachael Carpenter, Hailey Carpenter, Ben William Hudgins V and John Charles Hudgins; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of other family and friends.
