The flashing lights near Purcell Public School sites are active and operating as intended while summer school is in session.
The lights will be operational from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Summer school ends June 22.
Purcell Police will enforce speeds through the zone while the lights are flashing.
School administrators say the lights are there to protect the students.
“It’s a safety precaution for the kids walking,” said Purcell Superintendant Dr. Sheli McAdoo. “We’re running transportation too so we can improve accessibility and limit the need to walk but there are still some who do walk.”
The City of Purcell has control over when the school zone signs flash.
