Former McClain Reserve Deputy Cary Bryant has begun his full-time duties as a deputy for Sheriff Landy Offolter and will serve as the School Resource Officer at Mid-America Technology Center.

Bryant will also serve as the Public Information Officer for the McClain County Sheriff’s office.

Bryant, who had a 21-year career in the Norman Police Department, retired there in 2023.

He began his career at Norman in 2002 where he served in several patrol assignments throughout and city. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2013, again in the Patrol Division.

In 2017, Bryant was transferred into the Uniform Support Division as the Community Outreach Coordinator.

Bryant was also the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) coordinator for Norman PD. He was trained as a CIT officer in 2010 and now is a CIT instructor, working with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance abuse Services (ODMHSAS), along with many departments around the state.

Bryant was also the department liaison to the Norman/Cleveland County Continuum of Care (CoC). Bryant has also given basic academy instruction in mental health to the Norman Police Academy and other law enforcement academies throughout the state.

Bryant served with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office from January 2023 to June 2024 as Chief of Detention. He also served five years as a patrol officer from 1988-1993.

Bryant served 31 years in the Oklahoma Army National Guard, retiring in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his career in the National Guard, Bryant was mobilized for Hurricane Katrina and deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Bryant earned a bachelor degree in Business Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, where he received his commission in the U.S. Army and an MBA from Oklahoma City University.

Bryant has a daughter, who works for the State of Oklahoma as a video production specialist. His son is a noncommissioned officer in the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
