The Washington Warrior baseball team had a busy stretch on the diamond to end last week.
They were forced to play two games against two ranked teams in the same day, in different parts of the state.
Washington’s game against Lone Grove, which was originally scheduled to be played on April 9, was postponed due to weather.
That game wasn’t able to be rescheduled until April 12.
Problem was, Washington was already committed to play in the Bo Duren Invitational Baseball Tournament in Jones.
So the Warriors loaded up the bus and played at Lone Grove High School at noon, then drove the 120 mile trip to Jones to play Heritage Hall at 6 p.m.
Washington was defeated 10-7 by Jones and then lost 13-9 to Heritage Hall.
“It was tough to go down and drop one, then drive two hours and play another top-five team,” Washington head coach Jeff Kulbeth said. “That’s not what our program expects to happen, but it was a growing day and we need to learn how to grow.
“I was proud of us for giving ourselves a chance (in the games).”
Enid JV
The day before Washington’s travelfest, they defeated Enid JV in the Jones tournament, 15-2.
Easton Berglan started that game and struck out four batters in three innings.
Zeke Wilson came on in relief and struck out two batters in the final inning.
Dax McCaskill was 1-2 with a home run and three RBIs.
Liam Keltner was 1-2 with a double and three RBIs.
Case Taylor and Marlon Moore both doubled.
Lone Grove
Washington fell 10-7 to Lone Grove.
Marlon Moore started on the mound for the Warriors.
“Marlon didn’t pitch bad, Lone Grove just hit the ball,” Kulbeth said.
Kade Norman was 3-4 with three RBIs.
“I was pretty pleased offensively,” Kulbeth said. “We have guys who are having some really good at-bats. Lone Grove just had a bunch of base hits.”
The Warriors were down 6-0 and rallied to make it a tie ball game at 7-7 in the final inning.
But they couldn’t hold the Longhorns in the bottom half.
Heritage Hall
Kale Brakefield got the start against the Chargers in the 13-9 loss.
He threw three strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings.
“Kale had a good outing,” Kulbeth confirmed.
It was a two-run ballgame through four innings before Moore tied things up in the fifth.
“Marlon had a huge home run to tie it at nine,” Kulbeth said. “We had a chance to get out of the (next) inning on a double play ball but didn’t get it done. They scored four after that.”
Moore finished the night 2-4 with four ribbies.
Jones
Washington played host Jones in the next game and came out on top of a 9-4 decision.
Sophomore Spencer Barton started on the bump.
“Spencer came in to pitch it well,” Kulbeth said.
Mayson Thomas tripled and drove in two runs.
McCaskill was 2-5 with a homer and two RBIs.
Cage Morris also had a pair of RBIs.
Lindsay
Washington won 17-0 in game one of their final District series, this one against Lindsay on Monday.
Moore was 4-4 with five RBIs. He had three home runs and a double in the monster game.
McCaskill, Keltner and Koen Scarborough each had three RBIs.
Moore struck out eight batters in four innings of work.
Washington is 23-4 and will play Riverside tonight (Thursday).
