The suffocating heat has forced football teams to alter practice times and even pushed Washington, Purcell and Wayne’s kickoffs back to 7:30 p.m. over the scheduled 7 p.m. starts as previously planned.
Little League games on Monday at the Cain Sports Complex in Goldsby were cancelled due to the surface of the artificial turf resting at a sweltering 145 degrees Fahrenheit.
And the sad news is the triple digits are here for an indefinite time period into the future.
As one old timer used to say, “The weather is not fit for man nor beast.”

Burn Ban Extended
And as a result of the continuing drought and extreme heat, McClain County Commissioners extended the Burn Ban at their meeting Monday.
Commissioner Wilson Lyles called the newspaper to confirm the decision earlier this week.
The ban will run from August 24 at least through September 7.
It could possibly be extended after that.
