The Wayne Bulldogs will travel south Friday night for a District match up with Wilson.
The Eagles are 2-2 this season and coached by Brent Daniel.
Wayne head coach Brandon Sharp says they are a similar story to Healdton.
“They are huge up front and physical,” he said. “They have a really talented tail back who’s compact, powerful and fast.”
Offensively, Wilson will line up in the I-formation and try to run downhill at the defense.
“They’ll be in double tight end with the quarterback under center and run right at you,” Sharp said. “We’ll have to play more sound than we did last week.”
Defensively, Sharp looks for them to stack the box to try to take away the run game.
“They’ll have everyone in the box with a five man front, or sometimes six,” Sharp said. “They’re physical up front and have athletic linebackers.
We’ll have to play better and we know we’re better than we showed the other night. Hopefully we’ll get out there and get after them.”
Healdton
Wayne was defeated by Healdton 34-8 last Friday.
Despite moving the ball on Healdton some in the first half, Wayne failed to capitalize on opportunities.
Their best chance to get back in the game was before halftime when they made it into the red zone, down 12-0.
The Bulldogs missed their chance and gave the ball back to Healdton, who scored again before halftime to take an 18-0 lead at half.
“At times we had some success but didn’t take advantage of our opportunities,” Sharp said.
After halftime, Healdton came out and put Wayne away.
The Bulldogs’ lone score came in the fourth quarter when Eli Stottlemyre scored on a five-yard run.
Lukas Hannah made good on the two point try.
“They came out and got after us and hats off to Healdton,” Sharp said. “That’s the best Healdton team I’ve seen in a long time.”
Jeremiah Peterson finished the game with 105 yards rushing on 19 carries.
Defensively for Wayne, Max McGlory registered seven tackles from his safety position.
Lane Canfield had six tackles.
Logan Simpson and Stottlemyre each had five tackles.
Wayne is 1-3 this season.
