Bulldogs in Velma

Posted

Head coach Shane Collins and his Bulldogs are in Velma today (Thursday) for Districts with the Comets and the Empire Bulldogs.

Wayne plays Empire at noon, then Velma at 2 p.m.

The District winner will move on to Regionals.

According to Collins, Velma is a solid ball team.

“They have three good arms that can throw and have a decent off-speed.”

And, Empire has 6-12 record, but two of their wins are over Velma.

“Empire is a bit of a wildcard. We don’t know much, but they have beaten Velma twice,” Collins said.

Dibble

Wayne hosted Dibble on Monday and dropped a 14-5 decision.

“We used the Dibble game to get some guys some time on the mound that they haven’t gotten until now. We struggled some, but we also wanted to save some arms for Districts,” Collins said.

Braden McClendon threw for the Bulldogs first. According to the coach, he struggled in the first inning, but settled in by the second.

The Bulldogs gave up five runs in the first inning, but got three back in the bottom thanks to a strong start from the top of the lineup.

Wynnewood

Last Tuesday, Wayne posted a 7-1 loss to Wynnewood. It is their third loss to the Savages this season.

Wynnewood scored a run in the top of the first inning.

Rhett Kennedy doubled in the bottom of the first inning to score a run for Wayne.

The score stayed knotted at one-all until the sixth when the Savages scored six to pull ahead for good.

The Bulldogs finished the game with eight hits. Ty Kemp led the team, going 3-3 at the plate.

Jaxon Dill was on the mound for Wayne. He lasted five and two-thirds innings. He struck out eight batters.
