Bulldogs head to Little Axe tonight

Little Axe plays all their games on Thursday nights

Lexington is working on a short week this week when it travels to Little Axe for a Thursday night contest with the Indians.

Kick off is set for 7 p.m. for the 2-1 Bulldogs.

The Indians play all their high school football games on Thursday since they are not in school on Fridays.

“The quarterback makes Little Axe go,” Lexington Head Coach Keith Bolles said right off the bat.

“He throws and runs well. He’s a really good football player,” Bolles continued. “He will definitely be the key of emphasis for us this week.”

After last Friday’s 42-21 loss to Purcell, Bolles said he and his staff saw some things that needed to be buttoned up with Lexington heading into district play beginning this week.

“We’re going to get back to some basics on defense,” he said. “On offense we need to limit our turnovers, play within ourselves and we’ll be fine.”

The Indians operate out of a 4-3 on defense.

“We took some big steps in the passing game last week,” Bolles said. “We had good protection and are getting more balanced week to week. We are coming together offensively at the right time.

“I’m excited about it and coach (Jarod) Ennis, who calls the plays, is excited about it.

“It’s the second season,” Bolles said. “The first three games are to learn about your team. I’m looking forward to the second half of the season.”

Bolles was impressed with the performances of several Bulldogs after the game at Purcell.

“Cadyn Krueger played really well,” Bolles said. “Wyatt McBride and Cash Lippel played well in the offensive line.

“We found out some things we need to work on,” Bolles confirmed. “I thought both of our running backs, Cameron Weatherford and Dalton Brewer ran hard.”

Bolles said he thought outside of the big plays his defense played well Friday night.

“We need to work on not giving up the big plays,” he said. “We have to be really stingy on assignment football and we didn’t do that as well as I had hoped.”

Bulldog notes:

Lexington Head Coach Keith Bolles nominated Cadyn Krueger as the Offensive Player of the Week.

Krueger was 8-11 passing for 66 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 106 yards on 13 carries.

Bolles nominated Cash Lippel as the Offensive Lineman of the Week. Lippel graded out at 71 percent.

Cameron Weatherford was nominated as the Defensive Player of the Week.

He had eight tackles.

There was no nominee for Defensive Lineman of the Week.
