Last week the Grady County tournament kicked off in Verden on Monday night. Lexington got a 53-38 win over Asher behind the Faulkenberry brothers’ 28 points.

They picked up a 63-43 win over Verden then, in the championship game, lost to 2A No. 16 Minco 73-49.

Zeke Faulkenberry and Drew Dierking were named to the All-Tournament team.

Faulkeberry and Dierking led the Bulldogs with 11 points each in the loss to Minco. Trey Hartzog added eight.

And, turnovers turned costly as the Bulldogs finished the game with 18.

“Their dribble penetration and our turnovers got the best of us in the second half,” head coach Tyler Thetford said.

Friday, Lexington got a 20 point win over the Tigers. Dierking and Faulkenberry once again led the team in scoring with 21 and 17, respectively.

The Bulldogs held just a one points, 27-26 lead at halftime.

The third quarter proved to be the turning point as Lexington outscored Verden 22-7.

Monday night, in Lexington’s first game of the week-long tournament, the Bulldogs picked up a lopsided 53-38 win over Alex.

The Faulkenberry brothers combined for 28 points while Drew Dierking added seven.

Lexington jumped out in front, holding a nine point, 38-29 lead at the half.

Both teams’ defense tightened in the second half as scoring slowed. But, Lexington continued to pull away for the win.

“For the most part, we handled them well. We had 14 turovers in the game with most in the first quarter, so we cleaned it up and got the win,” head coach Tyler Thetford said.

The Bulldogs’ game with Marlow was postponed from Tuesday and will now be played on Saturday, January 28.

Girls

The Lady Bulldogs kicked off their tournament last Monday with a 58-42 win over Alex.

That set up a game with 2A No. 2 AmPo. It was lopsided from the get go, as the Lady Panthers outscored Lexington 46-16 in the first half.

Scoring slowed in the second half, but Lexington couldn’t make up the deficit.

Addi Lippel led the Lady ‘Dawgs with seven points. Mackenzie Manuel and Natalie Dicksion each had five.

In their final game of the tournament, Lexington lost a 55-27 decision to the Minco Lady Bulldogs.

“Our girls fought in these games, regardless of the score,” head coach Jacobi Couch said.

Rylee Beason, Abby Sample and Maddie Manuel led Lexington with six points apiece.

“Both teams are really good, well-coached skilled teams. These games gave us a chance to look at ourselves and see where we are.

“Those teams gave us insight into the level of play we’ll see in the playoffs and the level we’ll have to play at to compete,” Couch said.

Tuesday’s game with Marlow was postponed due to weather. It will now be played on Saturday, January 28.

The Lady Bulldogs are 8-8 on the season.
