Purcell’s Board of Education approved the hiring of Malia Turner as the district School Based Family Specialist at Mondays regular monthly meeting at the administration building.

Superintendent Dr. Sheli McAdoo reported the Department of Human Services pays 80 percent of her salary with the school picking up the other 20 percent.

“She will be a resource for parents in the district for all buildings,” Dr. McAdoo said.

The board voted to replace the school’s phone system and approved the PACT agreement.

Board members also approved the bid of Advanced Commercial Painting of $45,300 for painting of classrooms at the high school and approved payment for Paige Brown, Kim Thompson and Amy Nemecek to attend the UFLI Academy in Gainesville, Fla. The Purcell Public School foundation is paying the registration, travel, accommodations and food for the trio.

Elementary principal Cindy Stone made a presentation to the board about the healthy lifestyle grant.
