Okay purchase of new iPads, Chromebooks, textbooks

In its regular June meeting Monday at the administration building, Purcell’s Board of Education approved the purchase of 255 new Chromebooks and new Spanish textbooks.

The board also approved the purchase of 80 iPads.

The Chromebooks cost the district $76,245 while the textbooks came with a price tag of $30,164.33. The iPads were a $23,520 purchase.

After an executive session the board approved the hiring of science teacher and coach Ethan Scott, fifth grade ELA teacher Tammy Mackey, paraprofessional Julie Hiser, elementary teachers Michelle Underhill and Jessica Chase and special education teacher Bobby Ward.

Christie Bradley was moved from teaching second grade to kindergarten.

The board accepted the resignations of Zoe Swift and Haley Aloway.

Superintendent Dr. Sheli McAdoo reported the property insurance premium for the district’s $87 million assets is $353,186. The policy has a $25,000 deductible.

In the essence of security, the district will move to a fob access system for the administration building, intermediate school, high school and athletic facilities for $57,600.

Board members voted to approve a benevolence payment of $500 to Payson Purcell and voted to auction off old weight room equipment in the weight room across the street from Boney Matthews Fieldhouse.

The board voted to sanction the All Sports Booster Club and approved the bid for copiers for the coming school term.

Board members were given updates on the summer school program and summer meal program and heard a presentation on the special education alternate diploma program.
