Wayne High School Principal G. Malachi Blaxton was hired Monday night as the new Purcell Assistant Superintendent.
Blaxton takes over the reigns as assistant superintendent from long-time Purcell educator Jerry Swayze, who is retiring June 30 after 37 years in the Purcell School District.
Blaxton, who was hired by the board of education Monday, will take over in Purcell July 1.
Purcell Superintendent Dr. Sheli McAdoo said, “Purcell Public Schools is pleased to announce Mr. Blaxton as our new Assistant Superintendent.
Blaxton is a seasoned educational leader with over a decade of experience in K-12 and Career Technology education.
As Wayne’s High School Principal, Blaxton led efforts in instructional improvement, staff development and strategic planning.
Blaxton’s career includes a variety of administrative roles such as Assistant Superintendent, Director of Student Services, and Principal.
“His leadership has led to successful facility renovations, curriculum innovations and the implementation of restorative justice practices, resulting in reduced absenteeism, suspensions and dropout rates,” Dr. McAdoo said.
Blaxton holds multiple advanced degrees, including a Masters of Education Administration, a Masters of Business Administration, and a Graduate Certificate in Superintendent Studies. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Education.
“Having lived in the Purcell area for nearly 10 years, Mr. Blaxton is excited to serve the community he calls home and is deeply committed to helping Purcell students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally,” Dr. McAdoo said. “We are confident that his collaborative leadership style, strategic thinking and dedication to student success will be a great asset to our district.”
Blaxton resides in Purcell with his wife, Sara, and their five children.
He said he is eager to join the team at Purcell Public Schools and work with students, families, staff and community members.
