Texan doing it to help Ponzi scheme victims

A Texas man is riding his special bike from the Dallas Metroplex to Washington D.C. trying to raise awareness for saving legislation that will assist Ponzi scheme victims.

Aaron Novinger is making his second bike ride from Texas to D.C. attempting to encourage citizens to sign a petition urging Congress to extend IRS Form 4684, Section C. That is the only remaining tax relief for Ponzi scheme victims.

Novinger’s wife, Rebecca, drives their white camper van that serves as their “mobile home” for the 2,000 mile trip.

Novinger rides the newfangled bike that is new to North America about five hours a day. The couple was headed to Edmond after their stop Friday morning in Purcell.

The bike, that is manufactured in the Czech Republic, was purchased in Dallas from a professional pilot. It is equipped with an onboard computer and has signal lights and other amenities.

Novinger’s annual ride, dubbed “Pedaling Against Ponzi’s” raises awareness for thousands of retirees and families who lost their life savings to financial fraud.

Thankfully, the IRS does have a solution in the Form 4686. This provision helps victims receive up to 95 percent income credit.

The bad news is the provision expires December 31.

“We are doing this to get people to sign the petition to extend it,” Novinger told The Purcell Register.

“The Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2019 and the Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2020 expanded the special rules of Form 4648 and return procedures for personal casualty losses attributable to certain major federal disasters, by adding Section C that includes losses from Ponzi schemes,” Novinger continued.

Novinger went on to say many retirees lost their entire life savings because of the deceitful actions of one person.

“If one person can be responsible for taking away someone’s retirement, why can’t many of us, working together, get it all back.

“Ponzi victims carry the weight and hardship every single day. “Every mile I pedal, especially through the Ozark and Appalachian Mountains, is a reminder of their struggle. My pain is temporary. Theirs is permanent,” Novinger said.

He said when he does ride up and down mountains he usually has a strip of tape across his chest with names of victims.

“When I need encouragement I just look down at those names and somehow I get strength from above to help me continue,” he said.

There is no cost to sign the petition. Simply go to PonziRelief.org

The duo left from Fort Worth September 2 and were in Purcell September 12 with the expectations of arriving in D.C. in mid-October.
