Barbara Jane Powell Looman, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator,and friend, passed away on March 23, 2025. She was born on September 20, 1952, and lived a life dedicated to family, education and service.
Barbara graduated from Wayne High School in 1971 and earned her degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1974. Her passion for teaching led her to further her education, obtaining a master’s degree from the University of Central Oklahoma. She dedicated her career to shaping young minds and supporting special education, working as a teacher in Noble and Norman, Oklahoma.
She later served with the State Department of Special Education before finishing her career as an administrator in Ardmore, Oklahoma, where she retired in 2009.
She shared 52 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Loran Looman, building a home filled with love and laughter.
She is survived by her husband, Loran Looman of Wayne; children, Jennifer Waters and husband, Jason, of McKinney, Texas, and Matthew Looman of Purcell, Okla., as well as her cherished grandchildren, Madison Waters, Morgan Waters, Brooke Looman and Hank Looman; her sister, Mary Evatt and husband, Bruce, of Atlanta, Ga.; her brother, Raymond Powell and wife, Mandy, of Wayne, Okla.
Barbara’s warmth, kindness, and dedication to her family and students will always be remembered. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
