Purcell High School band members will have their bite of the Big Apple next spring.

The Purcell School Board gave their blessing to a proposed March trip to New York City for the band.

Director David Hilger told the board that the band was supposed to take a trip during the 2018-19 school year. But that didn’t happen.

The band and chaperones will travel round-trip by charter bus. Travel time is expected to be 24 hours each way.

“We looked into flights, but that would be $500 more (per person),” Hilger said.

The Dragon band last visited New York City in 2009.

Board members accepted the district’s 2018-19 audit and gave a green light to the solar panel contractor for the new junior high school to pursue a power purchase agreement with the City of Purcell.

Last week the city council adopted a buy all, sell all rate structure for users of behind-the-meter electrical power generation.

The board also approved a license agreement with Infinite Campus.

Superintendent Dr. Sheli McAdoo told the board it will take six months to transfer data to the new system, which will launch with the 2020-21 school year.

In other action, the board:

  • accepted a bid from Endex of Oklahoma Inc., to replace the fire alarm system at the elementary school, and
  • awarded a contract with Clifford Appraisals Inc., for the junior high school building at 201 S. Lester Lane.
