The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department reported last Friday a suspect in a mobile home arson fire in Lexington had been taken into custody.
Sheriff Darrell Weaver said Melissa AnnWells was detained by Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse Police at 3:30 a.m. Friday.
Sheriff detectives worked along side the State Fire Marshal’s Office to interview and subsequently book Wells in the Cleveland County jail around 8:45 a.m.
“This arrest is the direct result of strong interagency cooperation and the tireless efforts of our Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office investigators,” Weaver said. “I appreciate the dedication and cooperation of everyone involved in this investigation.”
Sheriff department officials reported Wells admitted to discarding a lit cigarette into an area of ignitable and combustible materials located within the mobile home because she was angry with the property owner over the treatment and care of her dogs.
Multiple attempts to get a fire report were unsuccessful.
