Washington’s defense pitched its fifth straight shutout and Major Cantrell went over 6,000 yards passing for his career in a 62-0 crushing of Comanche last Friday night at Reed Field.

The Warriors have yielded 38 points all season and have not been scored on since September 22 when Frederick put up a seven spot.

Cantrell now has thrown for a school record 6,142 yards and 81 touchdowns in three seasons at the helm of the Warrior offense with games yet to be played.

Last Friday, Cantrell was 7-8 for 208 yards with touchdown passes to Mason Singletary, Cooper Alexander and Cage Morris.

“Major was in complete control bouncing back from the two interceptions against Purcell,” Head coach Brad Beller said. “He was very efficient and spread the ball around really well to all the receivers.

Kade Norman scored on runs of 54, three and 17 and had two touchdowns called back by penalties.

As it was, Norman rushed 10 times for 116 yards.

“He would have had over 250 yards rushing if not for the two penalties,” Beller said. “He was amazing. His vision was good. His cuts were there. Everything about him was really, really good.”

Beller credited the offensive line for paving the way for the senior running back.

Easton Berglan was the leader of that group grading out at 91 percent.

“For as small as he is he gets things done no matter who he’s against. You can tell he’s played a lot of football in his career.”

Beller rotated 10 different players into the mix with the first team in the offensive line.

“We started rotating early,” the coach confirmed. “It was a total team effort.”

Leading that vaunted Warrior defense was Naithen Spaulding, Case Taylor, Kane Lampkin and Kale Brakefield.

Spaulding finished with seven tackles including six for losses and had three quarterback sacks.

“He accounted for 24 negative yards,” Beller said. “He was a disrupter. Case Taylor and Kane Lampkin were very disruptive and Kale Brakefield had a lot of tackles. They made plays sideline to sideline.

“Kale is only a sophomore but he’s really coming into his own,” the coach said. “He was banged up early in the season. He’s very fast and is physical. We’re excited about where he’s going to be in the coming years.”

Up next for the No. 1 ranked Warriors is a road trip to Little Axe on Friday night where they will put their 24 game winning streak on the line.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Beller reports the Indians will operate out of a spread formation on offense and will utilize a 5-2 set on defense.

“They will get into a four man front in certain situations,” Beller said. “They are playing harder this year and are trying to be physical.”

Beller noted the keys to victory are taking care of the football on offense and getting lined up properly on defense with all of the Indians’ formations.

Warrior notes:

Head coach Brad Beller nominated Kade Norman as the Offensive Player of the Week. He rushed for 116 yards on 10 carries and scored three touchdowns.

Nominated as the Offensive Lineman of the Week was Easton Berglan who graded out at 91 percent against Comanche.

Case Taylor got the nod as the Defensive Player of the Week. Taylor registered six tackles including one for a loss in the Comanche victory.

Beller nominated Naithen Spaulding as the Defensive Lineman of the Week. He had seven tackles including six for losses and had three quarterback sacks.
