An Ada man was admitted in critical condition at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City after a two-vehicle accident on I-35 at mile marker 100.5 last Saturday.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Melvin Leroy Thomas, 50 of Ada was transported by Wadley’s EMS to the hospital with head, leg and internal trunk injuries.
He was a passenger in a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by Juanita Faye John, 61, of Ada. Investigating OHP Trooper Gary Hightower said that van was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Jeffery Neal Heath, 48, of Enid.
Heath sustained minor injuries but Thomas was ejected from the vehicle he was a passenger in.
Heath said both vehicles were northbound on the interstate in the outside lane.
The trooper said the Caravan slowed due to construction when an unidentified vehicle merged into the inside lane.
He said the Tahoe struck the Caravan from behind causing it to depart the roadway to the right. The Caravan rolled approximately two times ejecting Thomas, who was not wearing a seatbelt
The Tahoe departed the roadway to the left coming to rest in the center median.
Also assisting Hightower were Lt. BrandonSchneider, Trooper Chad Pape, Trooper Byron Pletcher, Trooper Timothy Sconyers, the McClain County Sheriff’s Office and Purcell Fire Department.
