Wayne court ready for Friday’s homecoming activities

A royal event will take center field at Friday’s homecoming game for Wayne High School.

The Wayne Bulldogs will tangle with the Wynnewood Savages – but not until a queen and king have accepted their crowns in a dual coronation.

The coronation will take place at 6:30 p.m. and kickoff will follow at 7 p.m.

There will also be a homecoming parade followed by a pep rally starting at 2 p.m.

Queen candidates are seniors Mckenzie Fisher, Haiden Parker and Hannah VanSchuyver.

Their attendants will be Kaylee Madden, a junior, and sophomore Haylee Durrence.

Competing for the king’s crown are seniors Jerry Akins, Kevin Bynum, Cody Davis, Jairo Hernandez, Andy Lee, Brannon Lewelling, Maddox Mantooth, Ethan Mullins, Jr. Perez and Braxton Smith.

Fisher, 17, is a member of the Oklahoma and National Honor Societies and Book Club.

She is on the superintendent’s honor roll and is senior class favorite. She plays fast- and slow-pitch softball and basketball and in 2021 was Offensive Player of the Year in basketball.

She attends Oklahoma City Community College and is the daughter of Harvey and Laura Fisher.

Parker, 17, is a member of NHS and Book Club.

She is on the principal’s honor roll and plays fast- and slow-pitch softball and basketball.

Parker is All-Conference in fast-pitch. She is the daughter of Doug and Shawna Parker.

VanSchuyver, 17, is a member of NHS and Book Club.

VanSchuyver is captain of the cheer team and softball manager.

She is on the principal’s honor roll. Her parents are Dewayne and Brandy VanSchuyver.

Madden, 16, is on the superintendent’s honor roll and is junior class president.

She is a member of NHS, the yearbook staff, Book Club, Student Council and Caps for Kids.

Madden also attends OCCC. In addition to playing fast- and slow-pitch softball and basketball, she is a manager for the football team.

She holds a Gold Glove award in fast-pitch and is All-Conference Most Valuable Player in slow-pitch.

Madden is also MVP in basketball. She is the daughter of Kim and Calvin Madden.

Durrence, 15, is sophomore class vice president and a member of Student Council and Book Club.

She plays fast- and slow-pitch softball and is a manager for the football team.

Durrence is on the superintendent’s honor roll and holds Bulldog Awards in basketball and fast-pitch.

She is also All-Conference in slow-pitch. She is the daughter of Jeanne and Charles Durrence.

Akins, 18, plays football and studies auto service at MATC. He is the son of Tyanna Simmons and Robert Simmons.

Bynum, 18, is a member of NHS and is on the principal’s honor roll.

He plays football and basketball. He is All-District in football and holds a Bulldog Pride Award in football. He is the son of Dori and Jeff Bynum.

Davis, 18, plays football and baseball and was Most Improved Player in football in 2020.

He is the son of Tori  Mason and Dakota Davis.

Hernandez, 17, is on the superintendent’s and principal’s honor rolls.

He plays football and baseball and is enrolled in welding at Mid-America Technology Center.

He is the son of Sergio and Bella Hernandez.

Lee, 18, plays football, basketball and baseball.

He was Most Valuable Pitcher in 2018-19 and had the highest batting average for 2020-21, the same year he won the Bulldog Pride Award.

Lee was also Outstanding Lineman in 2020-21. He is the son of Gracie and Michael Lee.

Lewelling, 18, plays football, basketball and baseball.

He has been Player of the Week 18 times, Rebounder of the Year three times, Defensive Player of the Year three times and MVP.  He also garnered a Little All-City award and honorable mention in All-State.

He is the son of Rowdy and Dee Lewelling.

Mantooth, 18, plays football and was 2020 Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Mantooth is also a baseball manager.

He is the son of Rebecca Mantooth and A.T. Mantooth.

Mullins, 18, is a NHS member. He plays football, basketball and baseball.

He is a Heart of Oklahoma Player of the Year, first team Little City, Leading Rusher in the state, Offensive MVP and has a Gold Glove in baseball.

He is the son of Amber Deason and Lawrence Mullins.

Perez, 18, plays football, basketball and baseball. He is the son of Maria Esparza and Harold Esparza.

Smith, 18, plays football and baseball. He is the son of Jessica Smith and Eric Smith.

Also in the court are pre-kindergartners Addison Martin and Kash Evans as flower girl and crown bearer, respectively.

Addison enjoys dancing, tumbling and family trips to the lake. She is the daughter of Joe and Arran Martin.

Kash enjoys swimming and attending cow sales with his father.

He is the son of Trevor and Kailey Evans.
