Posted

A grinding five vehicle pile up on Interstate 35 Friday morning resulted in the death of a Nichols Hills man and the interstate being closed for over five hours.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Joshua Leffler, 35, of Nichols Hills was killed when a 2011 International driven by Jonathan Postal, 66, of Foley, MO, struck his 2017 Ford 150 Raptor.

Trooper Mat Conway said after the collision Leffler fell out of his vehicle.

Also struck by the 18-wheeler was a 2018 Chevy Tahoe driven by Ashley Dill, 42, of Wayne, A 2015 Freightliner driven by Carlton Williams, 39 of Arlington, TX and a 2011 International driven by Cory Stephens, 35 of Dallas.

The OHP said Postal was transported by Wadley’s EMS to Purcell Municipal Hospital where he was treated and released.

None of the other drivers and a passenger in the Dill Tahoe, 19-year-old Raegan Dill, were injured the patrol said.

All five vehicles were southbound.

Conway said vehicle 2, vehicle 3, vehicle 4 and vehicle 5 had all slowed for heavy traffic congestion due to construction in the area.

“Vehicle 1 failed to stop for slow traffic and struck the other four vehicles due to inattentive driving,” Conway said.

In addition to Conway and Wadley’s, assisting the investigation at the scene were Purcell Police and Fire units and troopers Lt. Bradley Dansby, Joshua Christian, Chad Pape, Tyrie Haught, Jarrod Terry, Jeff Cummings, Jason McAlister and Christopher Black.

Conway reported the accident occurred at 11:09 a.m.

The interstate was closed until 4:39 p.m. with the southbound highway traffic routed through Purcell causing heavy traffic congestion not only on Green Avenue but side streets in Purcell as well for hours.
