Editor’s note: Answering The Purcell Register’s five questions this week is Serena Melton, Administravie Assistant to the Purcell Police Chief.
Q: What brought you to your position with the City of Purcell?
Chief Elmore and I had worked together on a project previously. When the position became available, he reached out to me and successfully persuaded me to join the Purcell Police Department. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of the team and serve the City of Purcell.
Q: What is the most challenging part of the job?
The most challenging part of my job is balancing my different responsibilities. I serve as Administrative Assistant to the Police Chief, Evidence Technician for the department, and I’m also involved with the City of Purcell’s Community Outreach Committee. Each role has its own responsibilities, and I do my best to give each one the attention it deserves while keeping everything organized and on track.
Q: What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is the people. I work with wonderful officers and detectives who always go above and beyond, and I have a great Police Chief to work for. The city administrative staff is always willing to help and share ideas on projects. I also enjoy working with local business leaders and members of the community. The people of Purcell are what make this such a special community, and I’m glad to be a part of it.
Q: What do you find most rewarding in life?
The most rewarding part of life is spending time with family and the people who mean the most to me. Life gets busy, so I think it’s important to slow down, make memories, and appreciate the simple things. Those are the moments that make life special.
Q: Everyone needs some downtime. What do you do to relax away from the office?
I love going to the lake to fish. It gives me time to relax and unwind. I also enjoy camping, being outdoors, and sitting by the campfire. Sometimes, it’s nice to get away from the busy day-to-day routine, enjoy some peace and quiet, and just relax.
