Posted

Editor’s note: Answering  The Purcell Register’s five questions this week is Kayla Berger,  ministries assistant at First Baptist Church Purcell.

Q: How long have you worked in a church?

A: I have worked in a church for a total of five years – three years as the Children’s Ministries Assistant for Summerville Baptist Church in Summerville, S.C., and two years as the Ministries Assistant for First Baptist Church Purcell.

Q: How many pastors have you worked for?

A: I have worked for a total of two pastors, Pastor Randy Harling of Summerville and Pastor Tim Smith here in Purcell.

Q: What advice would you give someone seeking employment as a church secretary?

A: Although computer skills are important for this position, you must have good communication skills, not only with staff and members but with the community as well. This position requires sympathy, patience, kindness, grace, compassion and continuously seeking God’s guidance.

Q: What hobbies do you enjoy in your free time?

A: I love to ride horses in my free time, watch college football and spend time with my family.

Q: How large a role does your personal faith play in the workplace?

A: I could not do my job if I did not have faith in The Lord.  I must continuously grow in my relationship with The Lord, or I would not be able to do this job in a way that glorifies Him.  When I think back on my journey so far through life, God has molded me, equipped me and perfectly timed this job in my life.  My faith plays a major role in this position.
