5 questions with Glen Murray

Posted

Editor’s note: Answering  The Purcell Register’s five questions this week is McClain County District 1 Commissioner Glen Murray.

Q: Has being a county commissioner what you expected?

A: It has been and more. I knew the building and maintaining of roads would be a big challenge. I was ready to take on those tasks head on. I have really enjoyed learning county government such as different resources and support associations.

Q: Have you encountered any surprises on the job since taking office?

A: Yes, the number of meetings, conventions, boards and training seminars that occur monthly. I learned early on commissioners need to attend as many as possible. There are always new resources and legislation that affect county funding and a commissioner needs to stay informed.

Q: How would you describe your management style?

A: “Planning ahead” especially projects that are expensive and time consuming. We try to look forward months in advance to be sure funding  and materials are in place. I have been fortunate to have an experienced road foreman and secretary who keeps things organized. It doesn’t stop there, I have also been fortunate the last four years having skilled and professional employees.

Q: What do you want your legacy to be?

A: I want the citizens of McClain County to know I was honest and treated everyone fairly and the decisions I made are what I felt best for McClain County.

Q: What is something most people don’t know about you?

A: As a young adult out of college I thought about different careers. 1. I wanted to be an Air Force pilot. 2. I wanted to buy land and raise cattle. 3. Some day be county commissioner. I never served in the Air Force, so I guess two out of three isn’t bad.
