Warriors win two at Marlow

The Washington Warriors baseball team won games over Antlers (8-3) and Jones (15-1)but dropped their contest against Marlow (4-2).

The loss to Marlow came in the first round of the tournament.

“We didn’t make routine plays that we’re capable of making,” said head coach Jeff Kulbeth.

The Warriors committed eight errors in the game.

Luke Keltner got the start on the mound and pitched a solid game, according to his coach.

“Keltner threw it really well,” Kulbeth said. “The four runs were unearned.”

The Warriors only managed two hits but were hitting the ball hard. 

“We just hit it right at them,” Kulbeth said.

Kane Springer and Aden Hyde had Washington’s two hits. Springer had an RBI.

Antlers

Washington came back in the next game against Antlers with their offense clicking.

The Warriors had eight hits and were led by Camden Bates and Colin Pelton, who had two each.

“The bats were rolling,” said Kulbeth. “That happens sometimes when you get into tournament play and everyone is saving pitchers.”

Kulbeth gave the nod to freshman Easton Berglan on the mound. The youngster had a fine outing going six innings and striking out seven batters.

“Easton threw really well and was very efficient,” Kulbeth said. 

After Washington got out to an early 3-0 lead after the second inning they extended it to 5-0 after the fourth inning.

They scored three in the sixth before giving up two runs in the sixth to Antlers in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Jones

In the Jones games Washington exploded out of the gates with seven runs scored in both the first and second innings.

“We had a few things handed to us but we came up with big hits with runners in scoring position,” Kulbeth said. 

Dax McCaskill came up with two of Washington’s hits, including a home run, and finished with four RBIs on the day.

Jax Brewer was dealing from the mound. 

“Jax was efficient and the strike zone was pretty tight,” Kulbeth said. “They didn’t adjust as well as we did.”

CCS

Washington ran into a strong arm Monday afternoon against CCS.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when both teams got on the board and put up their only runs in the 2-1 Warrior loss.

“CCS had a really good arm on the mound,” Kulbeth said. “He touched 90 several times.”

Washington had two hits in the game but had chances for more.

They had the bases loaded in the fourth inning but a strikeout prematurely ended the inning.

“We need to figure out a way to put it into play,” Kulbeth said.

Jones tournament

Washington enters the Jones tournament today (Thursday) and plays Holland Hall at 3:30 p.m.
